The Golden Gavel Unit was chartered by the National Association of Parliamentarians (NAP) on April 6, 1982 and has been actively promoting parliamentary education throughout the Hampton Roads community. Responding to new technologies and modes of communication, ever important in parliamentary procedure, Golden Gavel became the first NAP Unit to appear on the Internet with the debut of its original home page in July 1998. To date we have had more than 8,000 visitors to our web site. Golden Gavel has about 50 members, many of whom actively serve in the community. We have several levels of membership including provisional (student) members, affiliate members, and regular members. Dues for these levels of membership are $25.00 per year. Golden Gavel offers its members many opportunities for learning. Not only are lessons
on parliamentary procedure taught during the meetings, but our most experienced members are always happy to answer questions and act
as mentors for those of us less experienced. From time to time Golden Gavel offers early bird training sessions just before
the meetings for those members interested in taking the NAP membership exam. An average of 15-20 people attend each meeting. The meeting program is usually a lesson in parliamentary procedure taught by a member. Meetings are relaxed yet lively with frolicking debate and happy learning! Come join us for a fun and informative evening learning about parliamentary procedure and how to participate effectively in YOUR organization! Guests are always welcome, so bring a friend or two!!
